North Valley Community Foundation CARE Team

Organization Description

Through grantmaking, partnerships, financial and philanthropic services we are the North Valley’s hub for social change. We help individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits maximize their impact on the local and global community.

Program Information

This placement is for MSW Foundation or Concentration year students.

The CARE Team is a youth suicide response team that supports young people and families in Butte County who are struggling with suicidal ideation, have attempted suicide or in the case that a young person or someone close to them has taken their life by suicide. The CARE team provides intensive resource navigation, mentorship and psychoeducation to youth and their parents/caretakers through a brief intervention model.  This is a non- clinical program but  due to the high risk nature of the youth we serve, our team includes three clinicians contracted for case oversight, as well as for secondary trauma support for our coaches and administrative team (which would include an intern).

The selected intern will be coordinating a grant funded Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training cohort along with supporting the CARE Team coordinator with referral line triage, outreach events, coach training and meetings, and program evaluation via caregiver outreach. The internship will be primarily a macro organizational placement with some opportunity for micro level work with youth and caregivers in the form of CARE team intake calls, caregiver follow up calls, development of TF-CBT infused social groups and youth/caregiver coaching.

We are looking for someone with compassion, flexibility, motivation, creativity and tenacity.  We are a small, hybrid team offering a lot of flexibility in scheduling and work location. We have a beautiful office in Meriam Park and also work remotely as needed.  We are looking for someone who is interested in supporting young people and families through coordination, administration and programming.

Health & Safety

All CARE team referrals are high-risk for suicide as they are all experiencing some level of suicidal ideation, have experienced an attempt or have had someone close to them take their life by suicide.
