Physical Therapy and Occupational Hand Therapy VolunteerAt — California Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy/California Hand Therapy - Brea, CA
Student volunteers will interact with physical and occupational therapy patients and will observe therapy services to become familiar with the outpatient practice. Volunteers will clean equipment and help maintain facilities as well as bring exercise equipment, modalities, and water/magazines to and from patients during their treatment. Volunteers have the opportunity for Q&A with staff to learn about the discipline/practice.
Tasks:
- cleaning of equipment and clinic
- basic guidance of exercises for patients with COTA and OT supervision
- patient introduction prior to each session
- patient instruction of exercise and hand sanitations
Training:
Students will be able to engage in one on one patient interactions with the supervision of a licensed OT and COTA. They will participate in daily patient care along with occasional one on one interactions with all clinical staff during monthly meetings for training.
Learning outcome:
- how to properly use exercise equipment
- how to read/fill out patient chart information
- How to properly clean/sanitize equipment after patient usage
- How to engage with patients in a professional manner
