Program Information This placement is for MSW students.
Little Chico Creek Elementary is located in Chico, California. We are a large school (450+ students and growing!) that teaches students in grades TK-5th. An intern at our school would work out of our Wellness Center - a new collaborative space that will be shared by our school counselor, counseling assistant, and targeted case manager. We envision that an intern would primarily work alongside our school counselor. This would include participating in individual counseling sessions, group counseling, restorative circles, social skills support and instruction on the playground, and teaching weekly Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons in the classrooms. We would also be looking for an intern that would be comfortable supporting dysregulated students who may drop in to the Wellness Center in need of a calm adult presence. Our school is a busy place with a lot of opportunities to learn and, if there is something school-based that an intern is passionate about - there would likely be an opportunity to get some experience in that area on our school site.
We are excited to welcome an intern to our school site and would consider them a member of our Wellness Team. We are hoping for an intern who enjoys working in a team environment as the placement will be a shared working space in our Wellness Center. It would also be helpful for an intern to genuinely enjoy spending time with kids. The ability to be flexible, remain calm in response to challenging behaviors, demonstrate and model positive social skills, conflict resolutions strategies, and healthy boundaries are also important. Additionally, it would be important for an intern to understand the importance of confidentiality as we often support students and families experiencing complex challenges.
