Description: The internship at Seacrest Studios looks for dedicated college radio/television broadcast students that have interest in the communication/ journalism field. Seacrest Studios provides students with a chance to
learn how to run the hospital's radio/TV station, creating unique programming through their own on-air shows and facilitating studio events for patients and families. Interns work with the Seacrest Studios team and the Child Life Department to provide a sense of normalcy, community, and distraction for children, some of which have considerably long hospital stays and critical illnesses.  All applicants should be comfortable in this environment and in working with children with a goal to provide programming that is interactive, educational, entertaining, and therapeutic for patients. This internship provides students with an opportunity to have hands-on work with all facets of media production, including DJ-ing/hosting shows, conducting guest interviews, creating show content, running cameras, editing, and designing graphics and animations - all while making a positive impact in patient's lives.

Intern shifts fall between Monday - Friday 10:00AM-4:00PM.  Scheduling will vary depending on production needs, intern's availability, and amount of hours needed for school credit. All interns must receive school credit for the internship in order to participate.

*there will be some flexibility in accommodating school calendars, vacations, and varying shift combinations however interns should plan on being sufficiently available at the beginning and end of terms for incoming and outgoing training.

Students will be required to produce, host and direct a 30-minute television program and one hour radio program once a week. These programs will vary based on the age and demographics of the patients of the hospital and will rotate each week. Students will also be tasked to create an Instructional How-To video for children.

Training:

Students will have a 2 hour (mandatory) orientation specifically for Seacrest Studios, job shadowing, skills training, assigned tasks with one-on-one feedback, and weekly scheduled one-on-one mentor meetings.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
1.Produce/host a live 1 Hour Radio Broadcast
2. Produce/host a live 30 Minute Television Show
3. Edit Audio and Video for Radio and Television
4. Operate all equipment necessary for the production of a live television/radio event
5. Comfortably utilize advanced media to help patients and their families cope with hospitalization.
