Resettlement Assistant & Women and Youth InternAt — World Relief

Opportunity Summary 

Resettlement Assistants: Assist newly arrived refugees during their first 90 days in America. Tasks will include assisting in making appointments, preparing apartments, calling refugees to inquire about current needs. Women & Youth Program: Facilitate Refugee youth after school club through activities with a focus on mental health and integration. Support refugee women by assisting them with enrollments, progress updates and provide additional support as needed.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will have an understanding of the process a refugee goes through to enter the U.S. through the Federal refugee program. They will have a general understanding of public benefits and local resources and how to navigate those systems. They will have an understanding of barriers new immigrants experience in a new country and learn aspects of the cultures of the families we are resettling.

Opportunity Training 

Resettlement Assistant: 3 hours of initial training & orientation. Shadow caseworkers in client meetings, video training through Cultural Orientation Resource Exchange (CORE). Ongoing training as needed. Youth & Women: 3 hours of initial training & ongoing training as needed

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will receive cultural orientation specific to the clients background. Students will never be alone in a families home for a home visit.
