Opportunity Summary 

The Intern will help share Rainbow Municipal Water District’s story with our stakeholders while gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting. The Intern will be assigned various projects supporting public information, community education, and outreach programs, including content development and multi-media campaigns, helping ensure messages are informative, helpful, accurate, and engaging. This is an internship opportunity for a student to work for the duration of the academic year for a maximum of 940 hours. The work schedule may vary during school breaks but may not exceed 30 hours weekly. Internships will be scheduled to end no later than 8 weeks after the academic year ends, and interns must reapply to be selected for the following academic year.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Video: scripting, filming, and editing video content for social media, website, b-roll inventory, and YouTube. Social Media: creating and scheduling social media content and graphics according to an approved content calendar. Photography: building a library of owned stock images by taking photos in the field and at events. Presentations: creating presentations for meetings and educational events. Graphic design: assisting with collateral creation using Canva and Adobe Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premier. Water industry: the basic principles and practices of water distribution and wastewater collection operations and services

Opportunity Training 

Through their coursework, the Intern will be expected to have some previous exposure to the principles, methods, and techniques of public relations, marketing, media relations, and communication. The District will offer hands-on learning projects to apply knowledge learned in a classroom in a professional setting. The Intern will be provided direction, supervision, and feedback to develop their skills in research, visual storytelling, social media, online and video communications.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

The intern usually works under typical office conditions, and the noise level is moderately quiet. Field visits will involve traffic hazards, exposure to loud noise from heavy equipment, walking over gravel or dirt, and climbing ladders or stairs.
