Opportunity Summary 

Under supervision, they will conduct the follow:

  • Tutor youth ages 5 to 17 in math, language arts, and science;
  • Mentor youth in regards to their academics;
  • Facilitate simple programs such as hygiene, gardening, math club, arts & crafts, sports, etc.;
  • Develop & instruct enrichment activities for youth, including short-term and long-term plans for the class;
  • Hold weekly meetings with mentees to monitor their progress and needs;
  • Assist staff in creating lesson plans and facilitating activities;
  • Assure the safety of children;

Training:

  • Club orientation;
  • Youth Development web course;
  • DCFS child abuse safety course;
    Brightside tutoring course;
  • 1st Aid/CPR training;
  • Program coaching courses;
  • Weekly mentoring sessions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Facilitate a small group tutoring session;
  • Mentor and motivate youth to excel in academics and extracurricular activities;
  • Facilitate a turn-key youth program;
  • Successfully manage a classroom of 20 children;
  • Understand and create a safety plan for a youth organization.
