Social Media and Community Engagement InternAt — Los Angeles County Commission on HIV

Opportunity Summary 

The Social Media and Community Engagement intern will be responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations and management of content of the Commission on HIV's Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This position will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and posting content for various social media platforms and developing community engagement materials for Commissioners and members of the public. The Social Media and Community Engagement Intern will work with a dynamic and fun team of seasoned public service professionals to engage broad community stakeholders in ending HIV.

Tasks:

• Work with the Executive Director to promote HIV awareness, services and work of the Commission
• Create engaging content for all major social media platforms to increase the Commission's brand awareness
• Brainstorm/offer ideas for social media projects/opportunities
• Schedule content to be published on social media at ideal times
• Monitoring the social media channels and activities
• Manage the Commission's social media content calendar
• Curate social media content for events, stand-alone campaigns, and other projects
• Develop community engagement materials and participate in community outreach activities

Training:

*One-on-one mentorship with a Senior Executive of the County.
*Participate in County trainings and initiatives such as Gender Impact Assessment and Anti-Racism and Diversity Initiative
*Lead staff meetings and trainings
*Participate in public meetings
*Assist in various program designs and research efforts around HIV and STD prevention, care, and treatment
*Learn community planning and engagement skills

Learning Outcome:

1. Gain knowledge and skills on how Commissions operate to support elected officials
2. Learn about local and federal laws and programs for HIV/STD care and prevention
3. Learn community engagement and planning skills around funding, policies, and programmatic design.
4. Gain social marketing skills for advancing health equity.
