College and Career Access InternAt — Project Youth OC

Opportunity Summary 

PROJECT SELF is a college and career access program that serves at-risk youth, 16- 24 years of age, throughout Orange County. Through the core service being intensive case management, we assist youth gaining life skills, overcoming challenges and barriers to their success, career exploration, identifying the ideal career path for each youth, and helping them apply to their academic program. Within the program we also offer monthly workshops focused on personal and professional development and experiential opportunities such as internship opportunities. Clients are referred through other programs, community partners, and OC probation. The goal of this program is to give our clients the tools to succeed and get them into their academic programs, connect them to resources as well as offer them opportunities.

PROJECT SELF INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

Case Management Support

  1. Observe one-on-one meetings with clients and debrief on what went on. Meetings will be in office but includes the opportunity to observe in juvenile hall.
  2. Communicate with clients and parents to complete surveys and other needed documents.
  3. Follow up with previous referrals to determine their continued interest in program participation.
  4. Help update skill building curriculum PowerPoint presentations.

Workshops and Experiential Opportunity Support

  1. Workshop Coordination: Assist program staff with workshop preparation such as marketing flyers, updating forms, and pre- and post- workshop duties. *Availability Thursday evenings is highly preferred*
  2. Internship Coordination: Assist in the planning of internship opportunities for youth in the summer.

Data Input & General Support

  1. Data Collection and Entry: Assist program staff with confidential data collection and entry into our Salesforce database system.
  2. Program Engagement: Creating marketing materials, attending outreach events and meeting community partners.
  3. Administrative: Assist program staff with organizational and other projects as assigned.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Assess the needs of youth involved.
  2. Connect youth to resources and assist in career exploration.
  3. Gain skills in program and event coordination.
  4. Mentor at-promise youth through relationship building and meeting facilitation.
  5. Collect and analyze program data to establish future program goals.
