The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct one-on-one therapy to children with autism and related developmental disorders under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Responsibilities include implementing individualized treatment plans, collecting and documenting data on client progress, and supporting the development of communication, social, and adaptive skills. The RBT also assists with behavior management and fosters a positive, engaging environment for the child’s growth. Strong communication skills, patience, and a commitment to following established therapeutic protocols are essential for this role.

Tasks

Conducting Behavior Assessments: Assisting in the collection and analysis of data to identify behavioral patterns and the functions of behaviors.

Implementing Behavior Intervention Plans: Applying evidence-based strategies to address specific behavioral issues under supervision.

Collecting and Analyzing Data: Accurately recording client behavior and intervention outcomes, and analyzing data to assess progress.

Developing and Delivering Training: Creating and presenting training sessions for clients and their families on behavior management techniques and skill development.

Monitoring and Adjusting Interventions: Adjusting behavior intervention strategies based on data and feedback to optimize effectiveness.

Collaborating with a BCBA: Working closely with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to refine and implement behavior intervention plans.

Engaging in Professional Reflection: Participating in reflective practice sessions to evaluate personal effectiveness and areas for improvement.

Conducting Functional Behavior Assessments: Assisting in conducting assessments to determine the underlying causes of problematic behaviors.

Providing Direct Client Support: Delivering one-on-one support to clients, including implementing behavior modification strategies and reinforcing positive behavior.

Participating in Team Meetings: Attending and contributing to team meetings to discuss client progress and strategies with other professionals.

Training
The 40-hour RBT training provides foundational skills in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). It covers key areas such as measurement and data collection, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, and ethical conduct. The training includes online modules, hands-on practice, and supervised fieldwork. By the end, participants will understand ABA principles, be skilled in data collection and behavior analysis, and be prepared for the RBT certification exam.
