Opportunity Summary 

This position is for a clinical intern who will serve support functions for an outpatient psychotherapy group.

The primary function for this internship is to expose and help the intern become familiar with the professional functions of a clinical career in the counseling field. The goals are to expose the intern to the clinical, ethical, and multicultural competence, and professionalism, necessary to transition into a graduate counseling program.  To achieve this goal, the intern will engage in supportive administrative practices necessary to assist clients and clinicians in their therapeutic work. The intern will also coordinate and collaborate with the community to provide psychoeducation in the area of mental health. 

The student will be conducting coordinated clinical supportive tasks, engaging in community outreach, communicate with insurance companies, schools and clients to coordinate care, engage in marketing and social outreach, and provide research and written expression on topics critical in the area of mental health.

Training:

The student will receive general administrative training needed to familiar with coordinating clinical services, learn to collaborate and communicate with outside interdisciplinary professionals, provide exposure to outreach and education in the area of mental health, attend workshops and skills trainings, and learn how to conduct intakes.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to function within a collaborative, group psychotherapy practice setting, be familiar with professional socialization. The intern will observe, interact with, and learn from other licensed psychologists from a variety of theoretical orientations, professional interests and specializations, and backgrounds. The intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with these other professionals as a means to optimize client care, ensure competency in the delivery of services, and consolidate a stronger sense of professional identity.
