Opportunity Summary 

CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2024 Workers’ Compensation (WC) Claims Intern. This fully remote, 12-week, paid internship program provides students with the opportunity to gain corporate experience, get a first-hand look at the day-to-day operations of a Super Regional Insurance Company, and prepare students with the experience needed to have a rewarding career at CopperPoint.

The WC Claims department is looking for students seeking meaningful work experience as they tackle complex challenges unique to the insurance industry. This internship role aims to provide an integrative program that allows students to make meaningful contributions to the department and to walk away with a meaningful experience.

The WC Claims Intern's primary responsibility is to support our claims adjusters. Our adjuster’s main duties include: analyzing reported workers’ compensation claims, determining compensability on those claims, processing benefits due to an injured employee while ensuring the adjudication of claims is completed within company standards, and making sure we are in compliance with regulatory agency requirements.

Assisting claims staff with incoming and outgoing calls, including gathering claim data, and documenting claim files
Compiling and sending file materials to various legal entities and medical facilities as needed.
Managing clerical requests, create various letters, to include Jurisdictional notices the injured worker.

Training:

Training involves: weekly 1:1s with mentors and manager, internship program learning sessions, executive lunch and learns, and team meeting sessions.

Learning Outcomes:

Understanding how the claims team fits within the insurance industry and how we service our customers (BD, Underwriting, Operations, Loss Control, Legal, SIU, Subrogation, Claims).
Processing new incoming claims, mail and assisting with coordinating benefits to the injured worker.
Analyze and evaluate issues, to develop an action plan based on the case facts to bring the claim to final conclusion.
Addition/Ad-hoc assistance as needed by the team.
