Assist directly with 1:1 and group sessions with occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists
Perform administrative work such as preparing materials, organizing equipment, sanitizing toys, etc.
Tasks:
-Work 1:1 with young children with special needs with occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists
-Plan interventions and prepare activities as needed
-Assist with group programming and program delivery
Training:
Continuous training on topics related to:
Child development
Sensory processing
Social-emotional regulation
Job shadowing consists of observing and assisting with individual and group therapy sessions, including providing direct assistance to clients of varying skill levels, preparing materials for therapist-chosen activities, and managing the space properly. Supervisor will provide examples for tasks that be assigned each week consisting of creation of preparatory materials, and feedback will be provided throughout the ideation, preparation, and execution process verbally or virtually. Intern will have opportunities to ask questions, receive feedback, and gain skills in clinical reasoning during debriefs after individual and group sessions, approximately 2-3 times per week. Supervisor will provide resources on literature on relevant topics to enhance clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of occupational therapy.
