Opportunity Summary 

College Essay Mentor:   The College Bound: Grad Lab program is a highly valued, and intensive, college readiness training program. Upon being accepted to the program, high school seniors will develop and refine the skills necessary to not only be an incredibly competitive college applicant, but to navigate college life in a confident, informed, and supported way!   As a College Bound Essay Mentor, you will work directly with our college bound participants and create intentional mentoring relationships. As a college essay mentor you will be matched with 2-3 high school senior participants who you will coach through the entire college application process from applications to essay writing and editing and everything in between. You will have the ability to engage 1-1 with participants through weekly virtual meetings and check-ins throughout their college-going journey.

Mandatory Training Dates - Virtual:

Setptember 24th  and October 3rd

Program dates:October 8th-November 21st

Weekly Meeting: You choose!Option 1: Tuesdays 5:00-6:15 pm starting October 8th-November 19thOption 2: Thursdays 5:00-6:15 pm Starting October 10th -November 21st

Requirements:

  • All coaches must be college juniors or above.
  • Must complete a background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete 2 required trainings prior to program launch.
  • Must commit to 6-week duration of this program.
  • Attend the weekly virtual check-in meetings.
  • Meet with your mentees on a weekly  basis to go over essay writing ideas/thoughts/progress.
  • Create essay outlines with students
  • Review and edit your student’s college essays.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to...
- Gain professional development and meaningful mentorship experience through opportunity to mentor student going through college going process.
- Facilitate community programs, including planning and implementing course curriculum.
- Refine existing writing and editing skills by providing feedback to mentee on their application/essay writing process.
