Opportunity Training 

There are weekly meetings and updates, one-on-one supervised training, and hands-on learning experiences. Students can gain experience in:

  • contact development and support
  • community engagement
  • volunteer coordination
  • resource management
  • budget development and management
  • staff supervision
  • event management
  • marketing
Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Photography and videography of program participants and guests is allowed by staff for marketing purposes, but not by members of the public. Waivers are required.

Students may be working unsupervised with minor or other vulnerable populations. Students may be required to work at night (after 6pm). Or, students may be supervised less than 50% of the time or the supervisor will be overseeing more than 8 people.

The Monterey Sports Center serves over 8,000 families and individuals who have memberships and an average of 2,000 guests per day. Ages range from 6 months to 100+ years and all abilities.

A facility manager, Fitness Supervisor, Sports Coordinator, Aquatics Coordinator, Facility Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant make up the supervisory staff. Assignment is based on area of focus.
