Opportunity Summary 

All interns are expected to set up all pts upon arrival as well as communicate with all staff. They will learn what modalities are and what the purpose of each one is in order to be able to communicate that information to all patients. The internship involves some cleaning in order to keep the clinic sanitized between patients. They will be taught how to perform lower quarter stretches as well as some table exercises to help assist patients with proper form. 

They will learn to build pt rapport as well as communicate with staff. Shadow staff to understand the basics of what physical therapy is and how to further aide pts to return to previous level of function. 

Tasks:

They will be able to apply anatomy coursed in order to perform stretches as well as basic therex.

  1. Set up patients when they arrive (
  2. Set up ALL modalities (compression boots, H-Wave, Game Ready, etc.) 
  3. Check in with patients

  • Handoff patients when you are finished working with them

(For example, you need to let their therapist know when you are finished ultra-sounding, etc.)

  1. Sanitize treatment tables and replace pillow cases immediately after a patient leaves their table
  2. Wash and fold laundry
  3. Complete restroom checklist for both restrooms

  • In addition to the checklist, the toilet and sink MUST be cleaned before lunch (around 1:00 PM) and before closing (around 6:00 PM)
  • Use gloves and appropriate cleaning supplies – if you do not know what this means, ASK!

  1. Sanitize ALL equipment in the treatment room and gym
  2. Sanitize ALL surfaces (shelves, cubbies, chairs, door knobs, etc.)

WEEKLY CLEANING DUTIES/ AS NEEDED

·       Clean windows and mirrors

·       Wash heat covers

·       Vacuum

·       Replace water in hydrocollator

·       Mop

·       Replace paraffin in warmer

CLOSING DUTIES

  • Heat Covers need to DRY overnight (hang small and lay out large on treatment tables)
  • Game Ready needs to be emptied and left by the sink
  • ALL equipment (Hypervolt, H-Wave, Compex, BRF, etc.) needs to be CHARGING or put away
  • Gym needs to be clean AND organized (put away equipment, line up boxes, stack weights, etc.)
  • ALL treatment tables need to be sanitized and pillow cases replaced
  • ALL surfaces need to be sanitized
  • ALL trash needs to be taken out AND trash bags replaced (9 – including office and restrooms)
  • There needs to be a load of laundry in the washer AND dryer
  • ALL TVs, lights, and AC needs to be turned OFF
  • ALL doors need to be LOCKED

Training:

The students will be expected for shadow staff as well as perform skills training.

Job shadowing will be what a normal day in the clinic will look like. They will be able to observe how each therapist conducts evaluations as well as progressing treatment plans. They will be trained on all modalities and lower quarter stretching demonstrating proper understanding and knowledge prior to performing techniques on patients.
