Job Description: Human Resources Intern
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under supervision of the Human Resources Coordinator, the Human Resources Intern will assist with various technical and administrative tasks in support of the District’s human resources programs for both certificated and classified staff. The intern will help prepare and maintain personnel records, files, and reports; assist with the recruitment and employment processes for the District; provide information and support to District staff and the public regarding personnel matters; and perform related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Human Resources Intern is an entry-level position designed to provide exposure to various aspects of human resources within a school district. The intern will gain hands-on experience by assisting with tasks related to recruitment, employment processing, employee records maintenance, and general administrative support. Supervision and guidance will be provided to ensure successful completion of tasks and to facilitate learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist with a variety of personnel and administrative support duties related to recruitment, selection, employment processing, employee substitution, and separation.
- Provide information and assistance in person or over the phone to District staff and the public regarding basic personnel matters and procedures.
- Support the recruitment process by helping to prepare recruitment materials, post position openings, and assist with the scheduling of interviews.
- Help review applications for completeness and eligibility, and assist with the scheduling of interviews and applicant testing.
- Assist with typing, formatting, and distributing a variety of documents including correspondence, forms, and reports; help maintain and update records and databases.
- Assist with maintaining confidential employee personnel files and records.
- Provide general office support including photocopying, mail distribution, and other clerical duties as needed.
- Assist department management and staff with special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Basic principles and practices of human resources and office administration.
- Basic data-gathering and record-keeping techniques.
- Principles of customer service and telephone etiquette.
- Standard business software, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Ability to:
- Operate a computer using word processing and other business software.
- Organize, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain confidentiality and work with discretion.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and the public.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Currently enrolled in a relevant program (e.g., Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration) and seeking practical experience in the human
