The expected responsibilities of the student would be to learn to apply psychological topics to the private practice scene. The student needs to be able to identify different types of therapy and when to apply it. The student also needs to be able to apply psychological terms to different example cases and learn about all the diagnosis, medications, therapy approaches, follow up plans, safety plans, crisis resources, and everything being assessed in psychological evaluations and test results.
The student's tasks consists of some administrative work such as scheduling for therapists and customer service. Majority of the students tasks would be to examine the process of psychological testing, the process of psychiatry, and the process of therapy sessions. The student will have to study the diagnosis being assessed for patients and understand why that diagnosis is given instead of other diagnosis. The student will have to be comfortable with knowing how a private practice needs in order to succeed. The students needs to collect information from our mental health professionals on how they got to where they are and what license they worked for in order fro the student to be sure of what license she wants and to know how to get it. The student will need to learn crisis resources in order to be able to help people in need and to have the patience to help others as well.
Training:
The student will receive weekly meetings with the supervisor to track the progress and to answer any questions the student might have. The student will be able to show their knowledge on workshops and practice cases where she will be able to identify which diagnosis the patient has and what therapy approach will be a better fit for the patient. There will be literature reviews to test the students knowledge on certain psychological topics.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to identify different therapy approaches, the process for psychological testings, the different types of mental health professions, and diagnosis codes.
