Substance Abuse Counselor InternAt — Solution Based Treatment

Applicant will participate in monitored activities that will cover the 12 core functions of substance abuse counseling. 

Tasks
Conduct client assessments,
Work with counselors on treatment planning
Facilitate counseling (group and individual)
Provide client education
Provide client orientation
Provide crisis intervention, and continuous record keeping and documentation.

Training
The client will participate in shadowing credentialed counselors in treatment planning, assessments, referrals, and individual counseling, in addition to hands on experience in other 12 core functions.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to provide drug and alcohol counseling to clients utilizing the 12 core functions.
The client will be able to assess a client for substance use disorder, provide therapeutic interventions, referrals, necessary continued assessments, group and individual counseling, and treatment planning goals.
