Social Advocacy Coalition- Remote Global Health VolunteerAt — Social Advocacy Coalition (previously Students Against COVID)
Seeking a self-motivated individual to volunteer within Social Advocacy Coalition (recently renamed from Students Against COVID to better suit its mission). This organization was a youth led movement that started March 2020 with the global onset of COVID-19, boasting 2000+ volunteers from 110+ countries over the years. Hundreds of various campaigns, teams, events, and volunteer outreach activities have occurred since it began as a global collaboration platform.
The intern will work in a team-based project in order to accomplish tasks that will meet the needs of their team and fulfill internship requirements. This may include completing powerpoint presentations, research papers, and potentially presenting their work (if applicable). Many volunteers take on roles as team leads and create and drive campaigns to (either on the ground or virtual) on a variety of important social issues or other ways to help those in need (ie education, helping with logistical concerns, social media posts, blog posts).
Previous interns have started research projects, presented at conferences, written blog posts, helped with logistics, ran teams focused on problems such as human rights abuses, mental health, or post-COVID ramifications. Opportunities are endless.
Requirements:
Open to all
Individual must have communication skills and work well with others in a team environment.
Ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule
Ability to multitask. Intern will also be required to submit weekly to biweekly hour logs and clear with supervisor all work done prior to performing to ensure it meets the needs of their internship.
Training:
To help the student achieve the learning outcomes, an orientation will be given to all first-time interns, showcasing what must be done, and what will eventually come out of the internship. Feedback will be provided by the facilitators of the team and myself for improvement throughout the internship period. Mentorship will be provided by a number of members who are professionals. Interns must submit weekly to biweekly work logs that will be evaluated for hours completed.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to work in a team oriented environment, lead a team, show proficiency in examining primary and secondary research articles, and potentially write a blog post denoting the major learning points they have gained throughout their internship. The intern will also potentially present in an academic conference if time permits.
