What does a Behavior Technician do?
The Behavior Technician provides in-home one-to-one support for children & adolescents with Autism, or other developmental disabilities. Under the support of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), you will have the tools and support necessary to implement programs, collect reliable data, and work with your supervisor to execute a plan specifically tailored to each child or adolescent. As a trained ABA Behavior Technician, you will:
- Execute 1:1 behavior plans for children & adolescents with autism in their homes.
- Provide the client's families with parent training to expand the client's advancement opportunities.
- Grow quickly as you receive ongoing support and supervision in the field from BCBA level staff.
- Work a part-time schedule based on the availability of the client and their families.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with the client and their families.

What are the role requirements?
- Must have a valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass an FBI/ DOJ clearance and background check.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a desire to work with young children with behavioral challenges.
- Must have experience with and must be comfortable playing with children.
- Must have good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have desire for continued learning opportunities and willingness to embrace instruction and feedback
- Educational or work experience in any of the following areas is a plus: babysitting, childcare, elementary education, teaching, classroom aid, paraprofessional, special education, early intervention, day care, preschool, head start, camp counselor, teacher, pediatric healthcare professional, etc.
- Bilingual applicants highly preferred
What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a branch of psychology that uses a scientific data-driven approach including behavioral procedures and techniques. The goals of ABA are:
- Reducing challenging behaviors
- Increasing socially significant behaviors
- Developing or improving activities of daily living (ADLs)
What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, which manifests itself during the first three years of life and will last the entire life cycle. The fundamental symptoms of autism are 1) Persistent deficiencies in communication and social interaction and 2) Restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities.
- Implement the antecedent and consequent strategies outlined in the client's behavior intervention plan
- Write daily session notes that provide summary of the session, including objective information on the client's behavior, a summary of the strategies used and the effectiveness of the strategies, and a summary of the client's overall progress
- Work directly with various clients with different skill acquisition goals
- Independently contrive opportunities to teach novel skills and reinforce appropriate responses
- Utilize natural opportunities to reinforce appropriate responses or redirect the client in the event that they engage in the incorrect response
Training:
- Direct one-on-one training - Student will be provided with one-on-one training by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst assigned to the clients she works with
- Monthly Professional Development Trainings - Student will receive on-going monthly trainings on the use of antecedent and consequent strategies
- Weekly one-on-one Mentor Meetings - The student will be provided with weekly one-on-one meetings with the clinical director
Learning Outcomes:
- Provide a description of the ABA concepts and strategies utilized with the clients she works with
- Demonstrate an IOA fidelity of 80% or higher in data collection across 3 clients
- Independently and correctly implement the antecedent and consequent strategies outlined in the Behavior Intervention Plan for at least 3 different clients during a minimum of 5 consecutive overlaps conducted by a supervisor
1. Clients sometimes engage in throwing of items, biting, or hitting
2. Student has been registered to participate in CPI training at no cost to them
3. Student has been registered to participate in CPI training at no cost to them
4. Student has been provided with arm guards to prevent the clients from scratching or biting her. Supervisors are always present at the clinic to assist with de-escalation<\/p>
