Coastal Zone Program - InternAt — City of Oceanside - Coastal Zone Program

Opportunity Summary 

Student intern will be working on a variety of coastal management issues, which include, but are not limited to, coastal dune restoration project development and outreach, sand nourishment and retention project outreach, coastal conditions and beach use assessments, and administrative duties associated with project permitting and entitlements.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

The Coastal Zone Program Intern assists the Coastal Zone Administrator with the following tasks: • Helps with coordination for the implementation of new and existing strategies for managing coastal resources • Serves as a resource to residents, staff and the public about coastal issues, processes, and projects • Performs outreach via tabling events and online webinar • Assists with the development and management of the City's sand replenishment program and actions related to the maintenance of coastal revetment • Assists with applying for grants pertaining to coastal and marine issues • Researches coastline conditions and conducts on-site evaluations, field inspections and reports findings and prepares reports as needed • Acts as a liaison with other departments, specifically the Parks and Recreation Department, on coastal issues • Keeps current by attending training sessions/workshops as appropriate
