Opportunity Summary 

An ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapist works with individuals to improve specific behaviors and skills through structured, evidence-based techniques. They design and implement personalized intervention plans to address communication, social, and adaptive skills, using data-driven strategies to track progress and adjust approaches. ABA therapists collaborate with clients, families, and other professionals to promote positive behavioral changes and enhance overall quality of life.

Tasks:

Implement ABA Techniques: Student will apply various ABA techniques such as Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Natural Environment Training (NET), and behavior modification strategies in real-world settings.

Data Collection and Analysis: Students will systematically collect and analyze data on client behaviors, using graphing and statistical methods to assess the effectiveness of interventions.

Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams: Students will participate in team meetings with educators, therapists, and families to discuss client progress, share insights, and coordinate care strategies.

Ethical Decision-Making: Students will engage in case discussions focused on ethical dilemmas in ABA practice, applying the principles of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) ethics code.

Documentation and Reporting: Students will maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress, treatment plans, and any changes made, preparing reports for stakeholders as needed.

Training:

Intern will receive a one week training on implementation of ABA strategies. During these training intern will role play how to manage diverse behaviors, practice running target goals, and practice taking data. Intern will also complete sexual harassment training.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to implement ABA interventions, take data, work with families from different cultural backgrounds, follow ethical guidelines, and understand the role of a mandated reporter.
