Opportunity Summary 

The substance use disorder counselor position entails providing support and guidance to those struggling with opiate use disorder. This role involves assessing patients, doing individual sessions, developing and updating treatment plans accordingly, and providing community resources as needed.

Tasks:

Student’s duties will include intake documentation, session documentation, treatment plan updates, provide appropriate referrals, deal with crisis, and use motivational interviewing. 

Training:

Students will be required to complete county required trainings, shadow other staff on sessions and documentation training, and monthly staff meetings.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to use assessment tools, develop community referrals, document sessions and treatment plans, and have crisis intervention skills.
