Development & Outreach InternAt — Pathways to Citizenship
The Development and Outreach Intern will assist the Executive Director at Pathways to Citizenship with key tasks focused on fundraising, donor engagement, and community outreach. The intern will gain hands-on experience in grant writing, creating fundraising opportunities, and managing relationships with donors to support the organization’s growth. Additionally, the intern will help maintain and enhance the organization’s online presence, contributing to outreach efforts and community engagement. This is an ideal position for students interested in nonprofit management, communications, and development work.
By the end of the internship, students may acquire the following knowledge and skills: Grant Writing & Research: Gain practical experience in researching funding opportunities and crafting compelling grant proposals to secure financial support for nonprofit initiatives. Fundraising Strategies: Learn the process of developing, organizing, and executing fundraising campaigns, including donor outreach, event planning, and identifying new fundraising opportunities. Donor Engagement & Relationship Management: Develop skills in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, including drafting donor communications, coordinating donor appreciation efforts, and ensuring continued support. Nonprofit Management: Acquire an understanding of the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization, including the strategic planning and management of development projects. Digital Marketing & Social Media Management: Learn how to manage an organization’s online presence, including creating content, scheduling posts, and analyzing engagement on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to support outreach goals. Communications & Public Relations: Develop professional communication skills by drafting press releases, newsletters, and email campaigns aimed at increasing awareness and participation in the organization’s programs. Project Management: Gain experience in managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and coordinating with various stakeholders, all while ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. Networking & Relationship Building: Enhance networking skills by collaborating with community partners, foundations, and corporate sponsors, as well as representing the organization at public events. Data Analysis & Reporting: Learn how to track and analyze donor data, social media metrics, and the outcomes of fundraising efforts to inform future strategies and reporting to funders. Creative Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Develop strong problem-solving skills by identifying challenges in grant applications, fundraising campaigns, or outreach strategies and proposing innovative solutions.
To equip students for their responsibilities, the following training will be provided: Grant Writing & Research Training: Students will receive instruction on how to research potential funding sources, understand grant requirements, and write compelling proposals. They'll also learn how to organize grant applications and report outcomes to funders. Fundraising Principles & Techniques: Training will include the basics of fundraising, such as developing strategies for donor engagement, planning and executing fundraising campaigns, and organizing special events to maximize financial support. Donor Relations & Communications: Interns will learn how to engage with donors, maintain relationships, and craft effective donor communications such as thank-you letters, updates, and appeals for continued support. Digital Marketing & Social Media: Instruction on managing the organization’s social media platforms, including content creation, audience engagement, post scheduling, and analytics. Interns will also receive training on developing marketing strategies aligned with outreach goals. Nonprofit Operations & Development: A comprehensive overview of nonprofit management, focusing on how development efforts support the mission and financial sustainability of the organization. This includes project management and strategic planning. Content Creation & Public Relations: Training in writing newsletters, press releases, and digital content to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and goals to the public and the media. Data Management & Analysis: Guidance on how to use data management tools and systems to track donor information, analyze fundraising outcomes, and report on engagement metrics to improve outreach strategies. Professional Networking & Outreach: Students will learn how to develop professional connections and represent the organization at events, understanding how to build and maintain a strong network of supporters and community partners. Collaboration & Teamwork: Training on working closely with the Executive Director and other staff, including effective communication, sharing updates, and contributing to team-based development projects. Technology Tools Training: Interns will be trained in the use of relevant software and tools for managing donor databases, social media platforms, email marketing campaigns, and project management systems. This structured training will ensure that students are well-prepared to take on their tasks confidently and effectively.
