Housing support InternAt — The People Concern
The People Concern is offering a student the opportunity to intern with our agency for 8 hours per week with one of our Housing Department programs to support clients transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing.
Tasks:
- Identify housing leads on a weekly basis and assist with organizing and distributing to clients
- Connect with landlords interested in serving the homeless community and identify housing leads
- Support Housing Department Program Managers and Case Managers with procuring and organizing housing leads for clients in the housing search process
- Assist with housing applications for clients applying for permanent housing
- Perform housing location duties including calling landlords, looking for alternative housing resources, and developing new contacts and ensure this information is documented appropriately.
- Maintain a current, thorough knowledge of Housing Resources and various subsidy types inclusive of Permanent Supportive Housing providers in our community
- Implement and consistently practice harm reduction, trauma informed care, housing first and integrated care interventions
Training:
A. The student will complete New Employee Orientation.
B. The student will be expected to participate in required quarterly trainings through Relias training platform and receive specialized training for housing applications, how to build landlord network and relations, and housing navigation.
C. Student will shadow several senior case managers on housing applications and housing navigation.
Learning Outcome:
A. To gain a better understanding of housing application process for LACDA and HACLA vouchers, as well as voucher usage.
B. To contribute to building a network of landlords for permeant supportive housing department at TPC
C. To deepen understanding of homeless services as it relates to housing navigation and obtaining permeant housing
