The Monterey County Health Department exists to enhance, protect, and improve the health Monterey County residents and environments. MCHD provides a wide variety of health-related services in the areas of behavioral health, clinic services, emergency management services, environmental health, public guardianship, and public health.

Monterey County Health Department's Cannabis Program

Monterey County is at a pivotal moment, working to balance public health needs with this new and expanding industry. The goal of the Monterey County Health Department Cannabis Education Program is to provide community education on the adverse effects of cannabis use by youth including pregnant and lactating women.

Internship opportunities for the Cannabis Program may include assisting with:

Assist with monitoring all new cannabis reports and research. Review existing content on websiter to ensure information is up to date with all new findings.

Establishing a social media page, such as Facebook, to increase public health communication and engagement with the community on cannabis issues- use of cannabis by youth, and pregnant and breastfeeding women, smoke free housing, secondhand smoke, and thirdhand smoke.

Developing cannabis educational materials for youth, pregnant and lactating women, and community members.

Assist and support with peer to peer health education efforts.
