Film Production InternAt — Higher Ground Youth & Family Services
The Higher Ground Film Production Internship provides students with hands-on experience in film production, media content creation, and digital storytelling. Interns will work with professional equipment, develop media content, and collaborate on community-driven projects. They will have the opportunity to hone their skills while contributing to meaningful work within a nonprofit setting. This internship supports both personal and professional growth in areas of media strategy, communication, and technical expertise.
Content Creation: Filming and editing video projects, ranging from short interviews to full-length features that promote Higher Ground’s mission.
Production: Setting up and operating cameras, lighting, and audio equipment to ensure high-quality media output.
Post-Production: Editing raw footage using software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, including color correction, sound mixing, and adding special effects.
Collaborative Projects: Working alongside the communications team to create media for marketing campaigns and social media outreach.
Educational Outreach: Leading or assisting in film production workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students, fostering educational engagement.
Media Strategy Participation: Contributing to brainstorming sessions for upcoming media projects and providing feedback on existing content.
Training:
General Orientation: An initial session covering Higher Ground’s mission, culture, and expectations for the internship, Technical Skills Training: Workshops and hands-on tutorials in using cameras, microphones, lighting, and editing software, Mentorship: Weekly one-on-one meetings with a mentor to provide guidance, feedback, and goal-setting support, Job Shadowing: Opportunities to observe and assist seasoned professionals in media projects to gain deeper insights into the workflow, Workshops: Scheduled skill-building sessions in areas like media strategy, storytelling techniques, and community engagement, Project-based Learning: Interns will be tasked with creating videos for real-world application, helping them apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.
