The Tax Preparer will prepare tax returns for individuals, companies, or organizations under the guidance of a certified public accountant. The Tax Preparer may also assist accountants with preparing financials, bookkeeping tasks to prepare the financials for input into the tax return, and month-end reports.
Input tax data from clients into tax software. Review transactions in the bank register and classify transactions appropriately. Log into the tax software training camp and select training videos with supervisor approval. Receive client bank statements and reconcile bank and credit cards at month's end. Run financials from the software after classifying and reconciling.
Training:
Review the previous year's tax return to understand what info is needed to complete the current year. Assign client books to the intern and ensure transactions are pulled into software and ready for classifying. Watch tax data entry training videos provided by the software to input data that flows to each schedule. Review which accounts need reconciling and locate client emails to request documents if needed. Train intern on using accounting software and how to find reports
Learning Outcomes:
Review comparative financial statements to understand the importance of accurate categorization. Reconciliation of multiple bank or credit card accounts. Completion of Sch A, C, D, E, 1 & 2. Categorization of all accounts and implications on financial statements. Prepare a simple Form 1040EZ and analysis of the tax return.
