Direct Service/Classroom InternAt — Beyond Blindness
The direct service/classroom intern will assist in one of our three classrooms, infants, toddlers, or preschool. In our classrooms, they will assist with child engagement and transition during the school hours as well as help implement classroom curriculum designed and lead by the lead teacher. Curriculum and activities is designed for children ages 6 months to 5 years old depending on the classroom assigned and targets children with visually impairments, blind and/or globally delayed.
*Our organization can help integrate additional learning opportunities as part of the internship as indicated by the intern. This can include curriculum design, shadowing of speech, occupational and physical therapy, IEP support, etc.
-Assist lead and assistant teachers in curriculum and activities
-Participate in classroom prep
-Familiarize self with students individual growth plan and needs within the classroom
-Engage with children in activities and transitions and support them as needed/indicated in their growth plans
-Provide oral report on behavior and day to lead or assistant teachers to provide feedback to parents
-Other tasks as related to the intern function or organization
Trainings include:
Organization orientation,
supervision/mentor meetings
Curriculum design for special needs education
classroom job shadowing
Learning Outcomes:
-support learning in a special needs environment
-have hands on experience with blind, visually impaired and globally delayed children in a learning environment
-understand the important of early intervention for children with special needs
-have a greater understanding of non-profit industry
