Assistant TeacherAt — Cypress Kinderland Preschool
The Preschool Teacher Assistant supports the lead teacher in providing a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment for children. This role involves assisting with classroom activities, daily routines, and ensuring the well-being and development of each child.
Tasks
Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities and lessons.
Help prepare and maintain classroom materials, supplies, and the learning environment.
Support group activities and one-on-one interactions to meet the developmental needs of children.
Supervise children during activities, playtime, meals, and rest periods to ensure their safety and well-being.
Monitor children’s behavior and address any issues in a positive and developmentally appropriate manner.
Work closely with the lead teacher and other staff to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Communicate with parents and caregivers in a professional and respectful manner as directed by the lead teacher or administration.
Training
1. Understanding Child Development-Highlight the importance of age-appropriate expectations and activities.
2. Classroom Routines and Procedures- Emphasize the importance of consistency and structure for young children.
3. Safety and Supervision-Train the intern to ensure children’s safety during play, activities, and transitions.
4. Effective Interaction and Communication- Model positive and clear communication with children, using simple language and encouragement.
5. Collaboration with the Lead Teacher -Teach the intern how to take direction, provide feedback, and offer assistance to the lead teacher.
Learning Outcomes
Developmentally Appropriate Interaction Skills:
The intern will learn to engage with 2-year-olds using developmentally appropriate communication and interaction techniques, fostering language development, social skills, and emotional regulation in young children.
Assistance with Routine and Self-Help Skills:
The intern will gain experience in supporting toddlers through daily routines such as meals, diapering, toileting, and nap time, encouraging the development of self-help and independence skills.
Observation and Documentation of Developmental Milestones:
The intern will practice observing and documenting children's behavior, play, and developmental milestones, using these observations to support the lead teacher in planning activities and communicating with families.
