Account Executive InternAt — CSUF - College of Communications

Opportunity Summary 

The account executive internship position requires the student to call on new and existing advertising clients for the purpose of securing advertising sales for the multiple platforms of the Daily Titan. This position is based in the advertising department of the Daily Titan and the position will be directly supervised by the faculty adviser.

The position will require the student to provide client service and see an ad campaign through its entire process of planning, conception, execution, and follow-through. The intern will work in an agency/team environment with other account executives, marketing executives, graphic designers and student accountant.

The account executive intern also will work closely with the sales director to ensure synergy and efficiency within the advertising department.  In addition, the account executive intern will meet weekly with the faculty adviser.  More formal meetings with the sales director and adviser will occur monthly.

Here is a sample list of tasks that will need to be performed by the account executive intern:
• Client service, maintenance and follow-up through ongoing communication
• Seeing an ad campaign through the entire process: planning, conception, execution and follow-up
• Securing client contract, managing timeline of ad campaign and adhering to deadlines, following through with invoices
• Being accountable for work (number of calls, number of sales, etc.) with weekly reports to director of advertising

Training:

There are several facets to ongoing training for the marketing intern:
* The intern will be part of an all-staff, four-day orientation that will occur at the beginning of the semester.
* The faculty adviser will conduct weekly meetings with the intern to review overall goals for the semester, ongoing tasks and assessment of weekly activities.
* The intern also will meet with the director of advertising on a monthly one-on-one basis for assessment and any needed training.
* In addition, the intern will gain additional knowledge through industry professionals and colleagues through the Daily Titan's membership with CMBAM (College Media Business and Advertising Managers).

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the importance of managing multiple clients and the related and varied responsibilities they require.
2. Execute an integrated advertising campaign while working with team members.
3. Understand the significance of integrated marketing efforts as they relate to client business objectives.
