Mental Health/Public Health/Behavioral Health Program InternAt — Multi-Ethnic Collaborative of Community Agencies (MECCA)
The function of the internship role is to support MECCA programming departments and teams within the organization. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience and exposure to MECCA’s organizational operations. Participating in a variety of tasks, the intern contributes to the meaningful work the MECCA does and increases visibility for our services in the communities we serve. The internship role is a participatory role in which the incumbent will make progress towards meeting MECCA’s mission of reducing health disparities for underserved populations.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Assist staff with program and organizational outreach through email, phone, and in-person events, community health fairs, and resource tables.
Assist staff with program events from inception through completion, including events that may occur on weeknights and weekends. Tasks may include assisting with event planning, outreach, and day of operations (set up, clean up, note taking, collecting materials, etc).
2.Assist with program materials creation, including flyers, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, etc.
3.Assist with the translation of or helping in collecting translations of mental health and other resource materials intended for program participants and the Orange County community.
4.Shadowing program staff at program meetings and community events.
Maintain MECCA’s resource guides to ensure all resources listed are current and up to date for the community at large.
5.Undergo trainings pertaining to working in a behavioral health, non-profit setting including training on peer support, mental health first aid, opioid overdose reversal, etc.
6.Assist with other tasks pertaining to program and organizational needs, determined by supervisor.
Training:
Students will undergo general employer orientation; weekly 1:1 supervisory meetings; job shadowing; workshops/skills trainings; and internship completion performance review.

Main outcomes that Intern will take away from this experience include:
1.Gain practical hands-on experience working for a non-profit community-based organization.
2.Develop professional skills such as communication, teamwork, project management, problem solving, and time management
3.Build a professional network with the nonprofit and government sector, valuable for future job and professional opportunities.
4.Learn more about program management of various health programs, grant structure, and requirements for state/ county funded programs for compliance.
5.Experience in event planning, community engagement, coordination with vendors and sponsors and learn/engaging in day of event activities.
