Behavior Interventionist Interns will observe and participate in the highest quality of individualized, behavior therapy to children ages 18 months and up with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Developmental Disabilities. Students should be available approximately 6-10 hours per week.  All interns must pass a criminal background check and TB clearance.  

Training is online and remote, but in-person opportunities are available in the clinic The Operations Manager and Clinical Director will be responsible for supervising and mentoring the student intern. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience for students enrolled in Special Education, Teaching Credential, or Psychology programs.

In person responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Shadowing Behavior Interventionists implement individualized research-based strategies to manage challenging behaviors and build skills
  • Assist with 1:1 ABA sessions as needed-- set up activities, prepare arts and crafts activities, ensure safety of children while playing outside, assist with toilet training/diapering as needed
  • Follow instructions to create visual support aids for client programs
  • Maintain cleanliness of clinic toys and materials

Training:

General orientation via Zoom
Online trainings covering: HIPAA, Introduction to ABA, Introduction to Early Intervention, Introduction to Autism and Related Disorders, Child Development, and Rapport, Child Interaction Skills and Data Collection
Plus, regularly scheduled mentor check-ins (Zoom or phone call)

 Learning Outcomes:

1. Develop professional communication skills  
2. Develop child interaction skills with children with special needs 
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to have more confidence in child-interaction skills in small ratio and group settings. The student will have a better understanding of child/adolescent development and milestones, distinguish the difference between children with developmental delays and disabilities. The student will also be able to determine age/developmentally appropriate games and activities for the clients.
