COMM 333 Teaching Assistant- C. KingAt — CSUF Communications Master's Program
Seeking a dedicated and motivated Graduate Student Teaching Assistant (TA) to support the instruction of COMM 333 in the Department of Communication. The TA will work closely with the course instructor to facilitate a dynamic and supportive learning environment for undergraduate students, while also gaining valuable teaching and course design experience.
Responsibilities:
• Instructional Support: Assist with course instruction by preparing and delivering lessons, exercises, and assessments. Lead study sessions to reinforce key course concepts and answer student questions.
• Grading and Feedback: Review, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on student assignments, quizzes, and other assessments.
• Course Preparation: Assist in developing teaching materials, including syllabi, assignments, quizzes, and LMS course content.
• Teaching Philosophy Development: Learn to develop a personal teaching philosophy through mentorship and guided reflection.
• Course Material Design: Collaborate with the course instructor to create effective and engaging instructional materials, aligned with course goals and outcomes.
Qualifications:
• Program Requirements: Enrolled as a graduate student in Communication or a related field.
• Course Knowledge: Must have completed this course or possess mastery of its content.
• Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Outcome: Demonstrate ability to use strategic planning and outcome-oriented assessment in creating educational experiences for students.
Assessment Task: The TA will prepare specific learning outcomes for their assistantship and for selected course materials, demonstrating alignment with course objectives. These outcomes will be reviewed for clarity, relevance, and alignment with course goals. Constructive feedback will guide the TA on how well these outcomes frame instructional planning.
Apply Field Knowledge to Professional Practice as a College Instructor
Outcome: Integrate field-specific knowledge to develop effective and engaging instructional content.
Assessment Task: The TA will prepare and deliver a course lesson. Their presentation will be observed and assessed on the depth of content knowledge, clarity of delivery, and ability to engage students. Post-lesson feedback will focus on strengths and areas for growth.
Develop a Work Portfolio and Appropriate Preparation for the Job Market as a College Instructor
Outcome: Create a foundational portfolio that includes essential teaching materials, showcasing their readiness for college-level instruction.
Assessment Task: The TA will compile a portfolio containing a teaching philosophy, syllabus, assignment, and grading rubric. Each item will be reviewed to assess organization, coherence, and alignment with instructional best practices. Feedback will focus on improving each component and preparing materials that can support future job applications.
Critically Self-Reflect to Enhance Skills and Performance as a College Instructor
Outcome: Engage in regular self-reflection to identify areas for instructional and professional growth.
Assessment Task: The TA will submit progress reports throughout the term and a final reflective statement. These will be assessed for depth of insight, ability to set and evaluate progress toward goals, and capacity to identify strategies for continuous improvement.
