The Direct Support Staff’s primary job function is the provision of direct supervision and special services to clients. Direct Support Staff will provide care, supervision, training and support to promote the clients functioning in the areas of self-care, daily living skills, physical coordination, mobility, behavioral self-control, choice-making, community integration, accessing community resources and participating in leisure time activities. Additionally, Direct Support Staff will provide specialized training, treatment, and/or supervision required by the consumers’ program plan. The employee is also required to maintain a clean household environment, provide household and grounds maintenance, and provide basic office management duties.
Tasks:
Description of Duties:
1. Provide supervision to clients in accordance with program plan and manager direction.
2. Provide personal care services to clients.
3. Assist clients as needed to perform activities of daily living.
4. Prepare menus and meals to meet clients' needs.
5. Assist clients to complete identified training programs.
6. Schedule and provide shopping trips with clients to obtain household and/or personal supplies.
7. Provide documentation in client record according to California regulations and Regional Center guidelines.
8. Maintain a clean household environment (perform typical household chores such as laundry, cooking, cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, etc.).
9. Provide typical household and grounds maintenance such as basic household repairs, watering, weeding, and mowing, sweeping, etc.
10. Keep monthly expenses within assigned budget.
11. Complete monthly expense log.
12. Attend staff meetings/training as required.
13. Immediately report all unusual incidents to supervisor.
14. Provide all services within Ambitions’ policies and procedures; and State and Regional Center rules, regulations, and guidelines.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Training:
Initial orientation covering working practices and emergency procedures, job shadowing, quarterly training, feedback on going.

Skill-Based Learning Outcomes: 1) Develop and implement individualized support plans that align with the goals and preferences of the person supported. 2) Adapt activities and routines to meet the specific physical, emotional, and social needs of individuals.
Value-Based Learning Outcomes: 1) Promoting Dignity and Respect: Advocate for the rights, choices, and inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities in all aspects of their lives. 2) Recognize and challenge biases or assumptions about individuals' capabilities.
