Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this opportunity, students will have gained valuable skills in communication, leadership, and empathy through meaningful interactions with seniors. They will understand the importance of combating social isolation and learn how to foster connections that enhance emotional well-being and community engagement. Students will also develop problem-solving abilities while assisting with events and programs, as well as practical skills like tech support and activity facilitation. This experience will prepare them for careers in healthcare, social services, education, or community leadership while leaving a lasting impact on the lives of seniors.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive comprehensive training to ensure they are well-prepared for their volunteer responsibilities. The training includes: Orientation and workshop, 4 hours, – Orientation will include introduction to the senior center, mission, and volunteer expectations. A tour of the center and all of the activities that occur here. The workshop will include one hour shadowing of one of our instructors on how to lead recreational and social activities, ensuring they are engaging and accessible for senior and effective communication with seniors, including those with cognitive or physical limitations. These trainings equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive impact while ensuring they have the tools to succeed.
