Advocacy and Community Engagement InternAt — Human Rights Council of Oceanside (HRCO)

Opportunity Summary 

The Advocacy and Community Engagement Intern will support HRCO’s initiatives in empowering students and families through advocacy and organizing efforts. Tasks include assisting with public forums, creating educational materials (e.g., brochures and flyers), coordinating outreach events, and collaborating on social media campaigns to amplify community voices. Interns will gain hands-on experience in community organizing, nonprofit management, and grassroots advocacy. This role emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and a commitment to social justice.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

- Community organizing techniques and advocacy strategies - Event planning and coordination skills - Social media and communication strategies for nonprofit campaigns - Knowledge of equity, inclusion, and human rights practices - Experience in collaboration with diverse communities

Opportunity Training 

- Orientation on HRCO’s mission, values, and ongoing projects (2 hours) - Mentorship from experienced HRCO members - Weekly check-ins for guidance and project feedback

HRCO ensures a safe and supportive work environment. Interns will primarily work on-site during daylight hours or remotely. No high-risk activities are involved.
