Opportunity Summary 

Unpaid: Academic Credit Required

Volunteer time to facilitate physical therapists and supporting staff with cleaning and stocking duties. Intern/volunteer would be helping physical therapists and physical therapy aides with non-patient related tasks and will be given the opportunity to shadow physical therapists with their patient-care tasks to help gain experience. There is a to-do list located in every clinic as well as a inventory list in each patient room that needs to be taken care of each visit.

Volunteer duties are listed, but not limited to, the following: 
- shadow PTs and PT aides when appropriate
- aide in indirect patient care tasks when appropriate
- proper sanitization of used equipment 
- sanitizing treatment tables and rooms after each use 
- changing pillow cases whenever necessary 
- laundry (mostly pillow cases and towels)
- restocking towels 
- restocking rooms with necessary equipment 
- proactive with volunteer duties

Training:

Volunteers will be trained by Physical therapy aides on non-patient related tasks as well as the physical therapist through shadowing and direct feedback sessions.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to better understand the duties of a physical therapist and how a PT clinic runs.
