Opportunity Summary 

Under the supervision of an SFCC Master’s Level Clinician and/or the SFCC Program Director, the Undergraduate Intern will:

  • Follow requirements, guidelines, and contracts/agreements set forth by the Intern’s university.
  • Follow directions given by the SFCC Program Director, SFCC Clinicians, and other senior SFCC staff members.
  • Learn and abide by all pertinent SFCC Program procedures, practices, and routines.
  • Assist in the direction and supervision of clients, supporting SFCC’s care for the mental health of SFCC clients and their families.
  • Serve as a role model to the clients by demonstrating appropriate behavior.
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Prepare and file in a timely manner behavior sheets, progress notes, treatment plans, and other documentation as assigned.
  • Report at arrival and dismissal times to receive and dismiss clients.
  • Participate in ALL activities with the clients and engage in evidence-based therapeutic activities.
  • Report all questions and concerns to clinical staff.
  • Learn to create and develop activities for clients under the supervision of the SFCC Program Director.
  • Remain with their assigned counselor, group, and/or client at ALL times. Clients MUST be supervised by an adult at all times regardless of the clients’ age or where they are going.
  • Clean and maintain shared spaces.
  • Prepare items and activities needed for group therapy services.
  • Track and maintain required university hours. Utilize SFCC approved video/audio electronics and storage devices for university requirements.  Parent/guardian approval and appropriate SFCC documentation is required.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform related duties as needed to support and ensure quality of care for SFCC clients.

-Orientation
-Overview of daily tasks with clinical staff
-Daily team curriculum meetings
-Check in's with clinical staff

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to
-Understand how to work with children with a variety of mental health challenges and behavioral needs.
-Demonstrate understanding of clinical materials such as concepts from CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, process therapy, etc.
-Understand behavioral modification systems and how these support client's progress and motivation.
