Homeless Prevention Interns Summer/Fall 2025At — South County Outreach
Purpose: Through our Homeless Prevention Program, South County Outreach works directly with individuals providing them with rental, utility assistance and resources to become self-sufficient. To apply to the program, potential clients must call the hotline, or submit an online application. The Case Management Intern will follow up on Hotline calls, and carry a caseload of 5-10 clients.
Reports to: Case Manager(s) & Homeless Prevention Manager
Time Commitment:
- Must commit to 3 months (or more) of service
- 5-6 hours per week
Qualifications: Fluent in Spanish (preferred); good communication skills.
Tasks:
Key Responsibilities:
Check the hotline every other day, Monday-Friday. Turn in the hotline log to supervisors.
Conduct phone interviews for potential candidates.
Meet with Case Manager(s) once per week to discuss potential clients
Carry a caseload of 5-10 clients. Follow up with linkages provided to clients.
Complete case notes in a timely manner.
Supervision once a week for 1 hour.
Update Resources
Update resources we already have and research other resources pertinent to the services clients need i.e. free dental clinics, insurance not required medical offices but affordable, etc.

Training:
The interns will go through the onboarding process. This includes completing a tour of the organization, reviewing our programs and services, client interaction and safety, and policies and procedures. Then, they would meet with the Homeless Prevention Manager to review the duties and tasks, sitting in during phone screenings, meeting with the case managers, etc. Homeless Prevention Manager will be meeting with the interns for an hour once a week. They will also be placed with the case managers upstairs to shadow the roles and review the documents and software we use. Mandated Reporter training is free and online so we will set them up. The Manager will also complete the evaluation and discuss feedback during the 1:1 meetings.
Learning Outcome:
1.) Learner will acquire knowledge of a nonprofit organization and be able to provide resources to the community.
2.) Learner will be able to understand the case management approach to community service to those most at-need.
3.) Learner will be able to assess, clearly present organization information, and interact with the community by providing information and resources to the community.
4.) By the end of this internship, learner will have a clearer understanding of nonprofit organizations that aim to provide community resources to those most at need.
