Fullerton ASPIRE/RISES Student AssistantAt — CSUF - Office of Student Academic Support
This internship position as a student assistant for Fullerton RISES and Fullerton ASPIRE, two Department of Education grant-funded programs that aim to promote historically underserved students’ academic access and timely graduation. The internship offers the student an opportunity to build interpersonal and relational skills, problem solving and resource identification, analyze data, and understand challenges faced by underserved student populations.
The student will assist both Fullerton RISES and Fullerton ASPIRE programs grant activities and project management that are critical to the programs’ successes.
Learning Outcomes
1.By the end of the internship, the student will gain Interpersonal and relational skills through providing support and guidance to CSUF students experiencing varying needs and challenges.
2.By the end of the internship, the student will acquire skills in problem solving and resource identification/access.
3.By the end of the internship, the student will develop additional knowledge in the unique challenges faced by historically underserved student populations
4.By the end of the internship, the student will gain project management skills and experiences in interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing data to create digital communication and content to communicate the program outcomes to the general audience.
Training
1.To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide training on professional and empathetic communication skills when working with students in difficult situations via phone and email.
2.To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide training on the overview of academic support, campus policies, and resources available for students and how to access them in order to thrive on their academic journey.
3.To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide event planning and workshop management training for organizing academic support events and the best practices for engaging with students during events.
4.To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will provide training on social media content creation and promotion for resources available to students and guidance on using data to write articles and other communication
Tasks/Duties
1.The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by responding to student inquiries, offering support and guidance by connecting students to campus resources, and guiding them on navigating complex campus infrastructures.
2.The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by researching campus policies, identifying resources, and collaborating with other staff to address complex student issues to support students in overcoming barriers in their education journey.
3.The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by having hands on involvement with facilitating and organizing program events and workshops targeted to minority student populations and at-risk students.
4.The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by compiling student response surveys after workshop events to highlight, interpret, and share student experiences.
