Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives Summer ML InternAt — Apple

Apple’s Environment, Policy & Social Initiatives (EPSI) team is seeking a Summer intern to support Community Investment programs and education initiatives. You should be self-motivated, intellectually curious, and have experience managing and executing on short- and long-term projects. This position reports in to the Senior Manager of the EPSI PMO and will work directly with the Senior PM for the Community Education Initiative program as well as a diverse set of Apple teams located across the world.

Responsibilities:

• Collaboratively create learning experiences that help people to develop, deepen, and apply their expertise in ML and AI.
• Partner with engineers and other team members to create and investigate new tools for supporting learning and other activities in the domain of ML and AI.
• Author curriculum and other educational materials to support teaching and learning about ML.
• Actively engage with the academic community by collaborating with universities and participating in other academic efforts.
• Coordinate with multiple teams across Apple, such as Legal, Communications, Compliance, Education, and AI/ML to execute cross-functional efforts
• Participate in internal and external-facing meetings with key partners
• Research and synthesize technology trends, competitive trends, and user feedback across the AI/ML landscape 
• Drive towards a shared vision to build scalable, secure, and advanced educational resources that include AI/ML technologies
• Design products to meet the needs of different types of users

Key Qualifications:

• PhD, EdD, or MS student in Learning Sciences, Curriculum & Instruction, Science Education, Math Education, Computing Education Research, or related fields.
• Passion for partnership with educators and compassion for learners.
• Clear and compelling writing and public speaking skills.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning models
• Software development skills suitable for prototype development on web or mobile platforms
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to simplify complex ideas for technical and non-technical audiences
• Exceptional project management experience and attention to detail
• Creative and critical thinking skills 
• Ability to collaborate and work with people and teams with different styles and ways of working 
• Desire to effect change in an organization and to do good for the world

2. Providing code samples and feedback on development of ML products
3. Researching and providing a synthesis of relevant ML learning objectives
4. Accurately capturing technical notes and action items from key meetings

Training

1. Meet weekly and manage projects the student works on
2. Provide an orientation to tools and processes Apple engineers use to prototype and develop product
3. Provide introductions to key collaborators, internal and external
4. Monitor his work product and provide feedback on clarity, accuracy, writing, and delivery
5. Provide an introduction to teaching ML fundamentals, including multiple modules and sample Swift code
