Medical Assistant InternAt — True Dermatology
Welcome to True Dermatology’s part-time pre-medical and pre-physician assistant internship program. This handbook is a comprehensive guide designed to provide you with essential information as you embark on an exciting journey to gain meaningful, hands-on clinical experience in dermatology.
The objective of this internship program is to offer pre-medical and pre-physician assistant students the opportunity to enrich their academic knowledge with practical insights into the medical field. As an intern, you will be exposed to the everyday workings of a dermatology clinic and will gain a deep understanding of patient care, medical procedures, and administrative tasks.
Tasks:
1) Room patients in exam rooms and record HPI (history of prior illness)
2) Document interactions and procedures during medical encounters in the EMR system.
3) Assist providers (Dr./Med. Assistants) with procedures such as biopsies, injections, and surgical excisions as providers see fit.
Note: She will be helping in the capacity of medical assistant in bandaging the patient, charting, the providers is referring to myself (dr sung) or my mid level practitioners
Training:
Student will be thoroughly trained through a combination of shadowing and hands-on experience. They will undergo an initial orientation during their first week where they will primarily shadow the providers (PA and/or MD) during routine medical check-ups as well as procedures. They will also be trained on how to document medical encounters using the EZDERM medical record system. After the orientation period, student will be granted more independence and be able to room patients and assist with procedures as the providers see fit, based on perceived ability to assist with said tasks.
Learning Outcome:
1) Room patients in exam rooms and record HPIs
2) Scribe for providers and assist with documentation during medical encounters
3) Assist providers as needed with medical procedures, such as biopsies and surgeries, that are relevant to the field of dermatology.
