Massage therapy assistant intern will work closely with licensed massage therapist to gain practical experience in providing therapeutic massage treaments, assisting in patient care, and supporting clinic operations. The internship will provide opportunity to learn various massage techniques, patient interaction and professional responsibilities in a therapeutic environment. 

Tasks:

1. Assist with client setup and comfort
2. Support massage therapist during treatment
3. Observe and learn massage techniques
4. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation
5. Documentation and client recordkeeping
6. Assist with client education
7. Assist in administrative task
8. Participate in team meetings and feedback
9. Assist with client mobility and movement
10. Support therapy integration
11. Contribute to clinic environment

Training:

General Employer Orientation (Mandatory): Intern will be introduce to the clinic's policies, procedures, and the overall work environment. Such as an overview of clinic operations and organization structure, health and safety protocols, including sanitation standards. Confidentiality and professional ethics in patient care, expectations for professionalism, comunication, and time management.

Introduction as well to the clinics equipment, tools, and the layout of the treatment areas.

Weekly one on one mentor meetings with intern to support, feedback, and guidance from a licensed massage therapist or senior team member. Regarding progress, challenges, and strengths. Discussions of specific cases, treatment plans and patient interactions. Will personalize skill development based on feedback and performance.

Intern will have the opportunity to ask questions, clarify concepts, and receive career advice. Job shadowing for intern to observe and learn from experienced massage therapist and understand the practical application of massage techniques and patient care.

Intern will shadow licensed massage therapist during client sessions to observe various massage modalities (swedish, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, etc). Intern will understand the interaction between massage therapy and other therapeutic modalities , including physical therapy and chiropractic care. Observe client intake, assessment, and progress tracking.

Workshop/Skills Training intern will be anle to enhance practical skills and knowledge through structured workshops and hands on training. Weekly workshops focused on key techniques such as basic massages strokes, body mechanics, pressure application, and specific therapeutic approaches. Demonstration of common treatment techniques, including safety precautions and proper use of tools.

Specialized training in areas such as stretching teqniques, client positioning, and ergonomic practices for therapist. Provisions of work samples to ensure the intern receives constructive feedback on their practical performance and improve their technical abilities.

Intern will be required to submit work samples, such as client treatment notes or documentation of progress of speicific cases. Feedback on these samples will focus on documentation accuracy, adherence to treatment protocols, and understanding of therapeutic objectives.

Overview to ensure the intern understands the context and importance of the tasks they are assigned and how they contribute to patient care. An overview of each task before its assigned, including its purpose and connection to the overall treatment plan. Explanation of the role of massage therapy in patient recovery, wellness, and rehabilitation. Clear guidelines on how to perform task such as preparing treatment rooms, maintaining client comfort, and assisting in therapy sessions.

Training literature reviews and testing to deepen theoretical understanding and assess knowledge of key concepts and techniques in massage therapy. Intern will be provided with materials, including clinic specific documents covering anatomy, massage techniques, patient care and ethical practices. Regular testing and and quizzes to assess the interns understanding of anatomy, safety protocols, and therapeutic techniques. Discussions on case studies to evaluate problem solving skills and critical thinking in real life scenarios.

Learning Outcome;

By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to gain hands on experience and exposure to a variety of massage techniques and therapeutic practices. Build knowledge of how massage therapy supports overall wellness and rehabilitation. Develop communication skills with clients, learning how to address concerns and explain treatment plans. Understand the operational aspects of a massage therapy practice, including sanitation standards, client care, and documentation.
