Opportunity Summary 

Our non-profit dance program is dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where students of all ages and abilities can experience the joy of dance. With about 75% of our students on scholarship, volunteers like you are the heartbeat of our organization, helping us keep dance accessible to everyone. As a volunteer, you’ll: -Work directly with our incredible dancers, supporting their growth and celebrating their achievements -Help run exciting events and performances that bring our mission to life. -Be part of a community that values creativity, kindness, and inclusion. -Gain hands-on experience that looks great on a resume and feels even better in your heart. No dance experience? No problem! We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds who share our passion for making a difference.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

1. Opportunity Training 

Free 2 Be Me Dance is committed to ensuring every volunteer feels confident, prepared, and supported in their role. To achieve this, we offer comprehensive training to equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed. Here’s what training will include: 1. Orientation to Our Mission and Values • Introduction to Free 2 Be Me Dance’s mission, values, and the importance of inclusion. • Overview of the program’s impact on our dancers and their families. 2. Understanding Disabilities and Inclusion • Training on working with individuals with diverse abilities, including tips for communication and fostering a supportive environment. • Discussions on sensitivity, inclusion, and creating positive interactions for all students. 3. Role-Specific Training • Clear explanation of volunteer roles and expectations, whether assisting in classes, helping with events, or providing behind-the-scenes support. • Step-by-step guidance on specific tasks, such as assisting dancers with mobility, helping with props, or managing backstage activities during performances. 4. Safety and Emergency Procedures • Comprehensive review of safety protocols, including emergency procedures and how to assist students safely and respectfully. • Guidelines for maintaining a secure environment for all participants. 5. Dance and Movement Basics (Optional) • Introduction to basic dance techniques and movements to better assist instructors and students, with no prior dance experience required. 6. Mentorship and Shadowing Opportunities • New volunteers will have the chance to shadow experienced team members during their initial sessions. • Ongoing mentorship from staff to answer questions and provide feedback. 7. Ongoing Support and Development • Regular check-ins with staff to discuss experiences, challenges, and successes. • Additional training workshops and resources for personal and professional growth. By the end of training, volunteers will feel empowered, knowledgeable, and ready to play a vital role in making dance accessible for everyone.
