Paid School-Based Mental Health Opportunity in Yuba County At — Wheatland Union High School District
Wheatland Union High School District is dedicated to increasing the number of qualified mental health practitioners in Yuba County. We’re excited to offer multiple paid field placement opportunities for MSW I and II students. In partnership with Plumas Lake Elementary and Wheatland School Districts, our program provides hands-on experience in school-based mental health services. Students will develop essential clinical skills, gain a deep understanding of foster and homeless services, and learn the foundational tools needed to establish and manage their own school-based mental health programs. This is an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact while preparing for a rewarding career in mental health. Join us in creating brighter futures for students and communities in Yuba County!
By the end of this opportunity, students will have gained a comprehensive understanding of school-based mental health services across all three tiers of support: prevention, early intervention, and intensive intervention. They will develop critical clinical skills, including conducting assessments, diagnosing, creating treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic interventions. Students will also lead small group sessions, provide crisis intervention, and engage parents to support student success. Additionally, they will gain hands-on experience in case management, foster youth services, and McKinney-Vento/homeless services. For those pursuing their Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, this placement offers opportunities to work with diverse age groups, preparing them for a career in either school-based mental health or clinical community-based services.
Comprehensive training and onboarding will be offered by two LCSWs at WUHSD: the Director of Community Schools & Mental Health and the Assistant Director of Mental Health. There will be many opportunities for shadowing and training at WUHSD prior to students being placed at feeder districts. Group and individual supervision provided ongoing to ensure appropriate support.
