About the Organization:
Pacific Symphony is the premier symphonic orchestra in Orange County, CA. Through exceptional musical performances, educational opportunities and community programming, Pacific Symphony inspires, engages and serves the Orange County community and Southern California region.
Like all nonprofit organizations, we need interns! We seek interns who are interested in giving back to the community while helping to spread the magic of orchestral music. Our interns enthusiastically advance the mission of Pacific Symphony through the contributions of their time, talent, resources, and ambassadorship. Our interns are the window to the Symphonic community and are a reflection of the diversity of interests and backgrounds that are found in Orange County.
We need skills-based interns who have the time and expertise to assist our various departments in and outside of the Symphony Office. These departments are Finance, Marketing and Public Relations, Development, Artistic and Orchestra Operations, and Education and Community Outreach. We need skills-based professionals who have time to give to a project-based assignment, short or long-term, and who are experts in the following fields: Human Resources, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media, Data Management, IT/tech, Web Development, Writing, Office Administration and more! About the Role:
Pacific Symphony is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Marketing & Public Relations Intern to join our marketing team! This role is perfect for someone passionate about live orchestral music, storytelling, and digital media. In this role, you’ll play a crucial role in amplifying our story, engaging audiences, and supporting our mission to make symphonic music accessible and inspiring to all.
Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation:
- Write engaging blog articles, social media posts, and e-newsletters that highlight the orchestra's performances, events, and musicians.
- Assist in developing creative content for digital campaigns, including photos, videos, and graphics.
Marketing Campaign Support:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns, ensuring deadlines and goals are met.
- Monitor campaign performance and contribute to reports summarizing results and key takeaways.
Public Relations:
- Support PR initiatives by drafting press releases, media pitches, and updating media contact lists.
Calendar Management:
- Maintain and update internal calendars for marketing and PR campaigns, ensuring all team members stay aligned on timelines.
- Track and schedule content releases across various channels.
Event Support:
- Assist in the planning and promotion of special events, including concerts, community outreach programs, and donor events.
- Provide on-site support at events as needed.
Qualifications:

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Music, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with marketing tools like Canva, Hootsuite, or Mailchimp is a plus.
- Passion for classical music with a strong knowledge of composers, repertoire, and orchestral performances.
- Experience with or knowledge of the performing arts industry is a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

- Location: Based in Irvine, California (onsite presence may be required for events).
- Duration: Part-time internship (flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends for events).

Training
During the internship, students will receive a general organizational orientation with Pacific Symphony.
During the internship, the student will receive weekly one-one-one trainings by their supervisor/mentor in the marketing department about best practices of arts marketing,
The intern will shadow the job of their supervisor/mentor and work on real-time assigned projects and receive appropriate feedback from their supervisor/mentor.
Hands-on experience in marketing, public relations, and communications within a nonprofit arts organization.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to write engaging blog articles, social media posts and e-newsletters.
