Patient Care Volunteer At — VITAS Healthcare (Covina)

Opportunity Summary 

VITAS is looking for kind and caring interns to help terminally ill patients and their families. Interns provide socialization, companionship, and emotional support to our patients and family members. Other VITAS intern activities: relief care (sit with a patient while the caregiver takes a break); friendly visits to patients and their families at home or in a nursing home; driving a patient to appointments; accompanying a patient to a church; run errands to the grocery store, drug store, post office; assist with programs and special events. VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding hospice volunteer. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns will learn patient's plan of care and the importance of being in compliance with the plan of care interventions and frequencies. They will lean the importance of confidentiality, compliance and HIPAA. In addition students will lean psychosocial, spiritual, and grief issues related to end of life care including bereavement.

Opportunity Training 

Yes, we require the following training, General Orientation zoom on VITAS Healthcare and the services that we provide. We also require in person training which covers the interns roles and responsibilities and required documentation. In addition interns will need to compete the following self-studies; Compliance and HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA.
