Job Overview:
The Marketing and Events Intern plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Brea Chamber of Commerce. This is a dynamic position that offers exposure to both the not-for-profit and business sectors, providing an opportunity to develop valuable skills in writing, research, copywriting, social media management, event logistics, and creative production. A positive, can-do attitude, eagerness to learn, and strong multitasking abilities are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communications Support: Assist in developing written content, including newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Social Media Management: Create engaging social media posts for Instagram and Facebook.
  • Event Production: Support all aspects of event planning, including:
    • Event setup, breakdown, and cleanup.
    • Managing registration lists and online registration platforms.
    • Designing flyers, graphics, and marketing materials using Microsoft Office Suite, and Canva.

  • Event Attendance: Assist with on-site event registration (some events occur outside of normal business hours).
  • Phone and Communication Support: Exhibit an outgoing, engaging demeanor while assisting with calls and inquiries.
  • Other Responsibilities: Provide logistical and creative support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills (preferred).
  • Background in writing, marketing, or creative fields (preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Canva (preferred).
  • Positive attitude with the ability to multitask and adapt to new challenges.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.

Additional Details:
This is an unpaid internship and is eligible for academic credit. Hours are flexible to accommodate your schedule, with occasional evening events.

Training
During this placement, students will receive comprehensive training to support their learning outcomes and ensure they gain valuable hands-on experience. The training structure includes:

General Employer Orientation (Mandatory) – Students will receive an overview of company policies, workplace expectations, safety protocols, and an introduction to team members to help them integrate smoothly into the work environment.

Weekly One-on-One Mentor Meetings – Each student will have scheduled check-ins with their assigned mentor to discuss progress, address challenges, and receive guidance on tasks and professional development.

Job Shadowing – Students will observe experienced professionals in their roles to gain practical insights into daily responsibilities, workflows, and industry best practices.

Workshops and Skills Training – Interactive training sessions will be provided to enhance students’ technical and soft skills, such as communication, project management, and industry-specific software training.

Provision of Work Samples – Students will be given real-world work samples and case studies to review, analyze, and learn from before working on their own tasks.

Overview and Contextualization of Assigned Tasks – Before starting a project, students will receive a clear explanation of their tasks, the objectives, and how their work fits into the broader organizational goals.

Training Literature Reviews – Students may be provided with industry-related reading materials, guidelines, or research studies to deepen their understanding

Event Planning & Coordination – Learn how to organize, coordinate, and execute events from start to finish, including vendor management, logistics, and timelines.

Marketing Strategy & Execution – Understand how to develop and implement marketing strategies, including social media campaigns, email marketing, and content creation.

Social Media Management – Gain hands-on experience in creating and scheduling content, engaging with audiences, and using analytics tools to track performance.

Branding & Audience Engagement – Learn how to craft compelling messaging and visuals to attract and retain an audience across different platforms.

Content Creation & Storytelling – Develop skills in designing graphics, writing captions, shooting videos, and leveraging trends to create engaging content.

Communication & Public Relations – Write press releases, handle media outreach, and manage promotions to build brand awareness.

Sponsorship & Partnership Development – Learn how to identify, pitch, and secure sponsors or partners for events and digital campaigns.

Data Analysis & Reporting – Track marketing performance, analyze social media insights, and measure event success to optimize future strategies.

Budgeting & Financial Planning – Understand how to allocate resources effectively for events and social media ad campaigns.

Leadership & Teamwork – Develop strong collaboration and leadership skills by working with different teams and stakeholders.

Crisis Management & Problem-Solving – Handle unexpected event or social media challenges with quick, strategic solutions.

Customer Service & Networking – Enhance people skills by interacting with event attendees, clients, and industry professionals, both in-person and online.
